Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 4, 2026

Fueli ("the App", "we", "us") is developed and operated by Lewin Widmer, based in Switzerland. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with. Questions about it can be sent to info@fueli.fit.

1. Information we collect

Account information

  • Email address and password (if you sign up with email), handled by Firebase Authentication.
  • Name and profile photo, if you sign in with Google or Apple.

Ordinary preferences

  • Favourite cuisines, disliked ingredients, cooking skill, budget, household size, and meal-prep style.
  • Meal plans generated for you, your plan history, meals you've marked eaten, favourite meals, and feedback you give on a meal (e.g. "loved it," "too expensive").
  • Food items you manually log or scan by barcode.

Health-related information

Your allergies, dietary restrictions, and calorie/protein goals can reveal information about your health, so we treat them separately. We rely on your explicit consent to process this information — given by entering it into the dedicated Food Preferences screen in the App, which you can leave blank if you'd rather not share it. You can withdraw this consent at any time by removing it from your preferences; this won't affect processing that already happened, but will mean Fueli can no longer filter meals for that allergy or restriction.

We do not store your body weight, height, gender, or exact age as part of your profile. An in-app calorie calculator (Settings and onboarding) may ask you to type these in to suggest a calorie/protein target — this calculation happens entirely on your device, is never sent to us or any AI provider, and only the resulting number is saved.

Apple Health data (fully optional)

Connecting Apple Health is off by default and entirely your choice. If you turn it on in Settings, the App reads your most recent body weight, height, active energy burned, and step count — this stays on your device and is used only to show you a summary in Settings; it is never sent to our servers, stored in our database, or sent to Google's Gemini API. If you mark a meal as eaten, the App writes that meal's calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fibre back into the Health app, mirroring nutrition data that already exists in Fueli. We never sell Health data, and never use it for advertising, ad targeting, or profiling. You can turn sync off at any time in Settings; revoking Fueli's actual Health permission is done from the iOS Settings app, per Apple's design.

Purchase information

Premium subscriptions are purchased and billed entirely through Apple's App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription status (active, expired, etc.) from Apple — we never see your payment card details. We use RevenueCat solely to track and report on subscription activity (e.g. new subscriptions, renewals, cancellations) for our own analytics; it does not process your payment and cannot charge you. RevenueCat receives your Firebase account ID and subscription/transaction details (product purchased, purchase and expiration dates, transaction ID).

Usage and device information

  • App events such as sign-up, app opens, meal plan generation, and meal swaps, tied to your Firebase account ID and collected via PostHog for product analytics. This ID is pseudonymous, not anonymous — it's the same one used elsewhere in the App. Each event also includes your IP address, which PostHog uses to derive your approximate location (e.g. country/city) for aggregate usage analytics — we don't compute or store this location ourselves, and don't use it to identify you individually.
  • Your IP address, used briefly at sign-up to limit how many accounts can be created from the same network, as an anti-abuse measure.
  • Data Google's AdMob SDK processes when showing you a rewarded ad — which can include your IP address, device identifiers, ad-interaction data, and diagnostics, not just an advertising identifier.
  • Crash reports and error diagnostics, collected via Sentry when the App crashes or certain operations fail (e.g. a meal plan failing to generate). This includes a stack trace of what caused the error, your device model, OS version, and app version. We do not deliberately attach your name, email, or account ID to these reports.

2. AI meal generation (Google Gemini)

Fueli uses Google's Gemini API (the gemini-2.5-flash model, called directly rather than via Vertex AI) to generate meal plans and swaps. Each request includes: the meal slot and style being generated, your calorie/protein target for it, your dietary restrictions, allergies, and disliked ingredients, your favourite cuisines, cooking skill, budget, and household size, your meal-prep preferences, the names of meals already in your plan or recently generated (so it doesn't repeat them), and short feedback you've given on past meals. We do not send your email, name, account ID, exact age, gender, weight, height, or any Apple Health data.

Depending on Google's billing configuration for this service, Google may use the content you submit (and Gemini's responses) to improve its own products — this is standard for Google's free-tier API access and would not apply if this project moves to a billed, paid configuration. We're disclosing this so you know it's a possibility, not a certainty either way.

Fueli's meal suggestions, including allergy filtering, are AI-generated and can be wrong. Never rely on Fueli as your only safeguard against an allergen — see the Terms of Use for our full disclaimer.

3. Who we share information with

We use the following third-party services to operate the App. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, App Check) — core app infrastructure and data storage.
  • Google Gemini API — generates meal plan content; see Section 2 above for exactly what's sent.
  • Google AdMob — serves rewarded ads to free-tier users. We have not yet implemented Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt or Google's EEA/UK consent flow (the User Messaging Platform SDK) — in practice this means ads currently run without access to your advertising identifier and without a dedicated consent step for EEA/UK/Swiss users, which we're in the process of formalising properly.
  • PostHog — product analytics, receiving app-usage events tied to your Firebase account ID and your IP address (used for approximate location analytics), hosted on PostHog's EU servers.
  • Apple App Store / StoreKit — processes subscription payments and provides us with your entitlement status.
  • RevenueCat — tracks subscription/purchase activity for our own analytics; does not process payments. See "Purchase information" above for exactly what's sent.
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting, hosted on Sentry's EU servers, receiving crash reports and diagnostic data as described above.
  • Open Food Facts — a public, open nutrition database queried when you scan a barcode. No personal data is sent with these requests.
  • Pexels — stock photo API used to fetch representative images for meals. No personal data is sent with these requests.
  • Kickbox — checks whether your email's domain is a known disposable/temporary-email provider at sign-up. Only the domain (e.g. "example.com"), not your full email address, is sent.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Data retention and deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This removes your profile, current meal plan, and your authentication record. Being transparent about a current limitation: some related records — past plan history, meal-tracking logs, meal feedback, your saved weekly plan, and your subscription entitlement record — are not yet automatically deleted alongside your account, and your PostHog analytics history is not deleted or anonymised either. If you'd like these removed sooner than we complete that work, email us and we'll do it manually. Data Apple retains for its own transaction records, and standard infrastructure logs and backups, follow those providers' own retention practices.

5. Your rights

Your rights may arise under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or other applicable privacy laws — Swiss users are protected primarily under the FADP; GDPR applies additionally if you're located in the EU/EEA. Depending on which applies to you, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, restrict or object to certain processing, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Switzerland, the FDPIC). Not every right applies in every situation. To exercise any of these, contact us at info@fueli.fit.

6. Age requirement

Fueli requires that users be at least 18 years old. This isn't only our own policy — Google's Gemini API terms, which power Fueli's AI meal generation, prohibit use by anyone under 18.

7. Security

Data is stored and transmitted using Firebase's infrastructure, which encrypts data in transit and at rest, and server-side requests are protected with Firebase App Check to help prevent abuse. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or stored by us.

8. International data transfers

Fueli is based in Switzerland, but the third-party services we rely on — Google/Firebase, Gemini, AdMob, PostHog, Kickbox, Open Food Facts, Pexels, and Apple — commonly process data outside Switzerland, including in the United States. Where this happens, we and our providers rely on the safeguards available under Swiss and EU law, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, for transfers to countries without an equivalent level of data protection.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we'll provide reasonable notice — such as an in-app notice before the change takes effect — rather than relying only on the "Last updated" date above.
